Joy Guerrilla BEATSCENES playlist on Spotify

Maggie Dave collaborators and multi-instrumentalists Magdalena Daniec and Adam Grab, performing together as Joy Guerrilla, have released a special playlist on Spotify. “BEATSCENES” contains a series of aural environments that the band describes as “morsels which musically evoke the feel of a place at a particular time.” Featuring warm analog synths and precise jazz grooves, it’s a great playlist to keep you company!

Writing about their song “Hume Lake (Golden Hour),” the band writes: “The churning percussion, golden Rhodes, and bouncy groove, with the light wave ambiance in the intro/outro, are meant to place the listener at the edge of Hume Lake in Sequoia during the golden hour of the day. It's a combination of the classic ‘Environments’ soundscapes of the late 60s/early 70s and grooves we write to remember these places.”

Written, arranged, and performed by Magdalena Daniec and Adam Grab // Mixed by Adam Grab and Julian Nicholson // Produced by Magdalena Daniec, Adam Grab. and Julian Nicholson // Mastered by Saif Bari at Fixed Mastering.

"Million Dollar Neighborhood" by Joy Guerrilla

The million dollar neighborhood isn't so much a place as it is a temperament. With the right lens, you can see it anywhere and everywhere. Here is our attempt to sonically describe that state of mind.

Maggie Dave collaborators Magdalena Daniec (keyboards) and Adam Grab (bass guitar) have excavated this funky gem of a song with their band, Joy Guerrilla. Oozing with vintage charm complimented with stacks of horns and flutey synths, “Million Dollar Neighborhood” is joy to listen to and a perfect walking companion song for any neighborhood!

"The million dollar neighborhood isn't so much a place as it is a temperament. With the right lens, you can see it anywhere and everywhere. Here is our attempt to sonically describe that state of mind. Recorded (almost) entirely analog in our apartment, we hope this will elicit the paradoxical feelings of morose-filled hyper-stimulation, chipper-agitation, and promise-with-a-backdrop-of-chaos that are part and parcel of the place. Ultimately, you should feel like a million bucks." -Joy Guerrilla
