Harbor Party's debut single "Ain't Young Anymore" written by Sean David Christensen & John Schroeder

“Ain’t Young Anymore,” the debut single by LA’s premiere yacht rock tribute band Harbor Party, was released on December 29th. Co-written by Maggie Dave lead singer/founder Sean David Christensen & guitarist/producer John Schroeder, the song celebrates the smooth radio hits of the 70s & 80s that inspired it, and signals more original music to be released by the band later this year.

Maggie Dave announced the release of their upcoming single “Change Your Mind,” slated for Friday, November 17th. Currently working on their debut album, lead singer Sean David Christensen describes the new song as “…an anthem that speaks to the human struggle of deciding whether to let somebody go or hold onto them even tighter than before.” Co-written by Grammy Award-nominated choral arranger and songwriter Tehillah Alphonso, “Change Your Mind” signals a bold new sound for the band—one they’ll continue exploring next year. “Mark & I [Maggie Dave] are learning to expand our sound with each new collaboration. Nina Shekhar premieres “The Mother is Standing” with the New York Philharmonic

Nina Shekhar, Maggie Dave remixer & collaborator, premiered her latest symphonic work with the New York Philharmonic on Wednesday, July 19th at the Bravo! Vail Music Festival. An original composition co-commissioned by the festival and the NY Phil, Shekhar’s “The Mother is Standing” examines the love between mother and child.

Nina: “As I navigate my own womanhood, I am guided by the strong women in my life. My mom’s side of the family had a unique matrilineal structure, in which the mother’s name was passed down to her children rather than the father’s. I am blessed to have been surrounded by many brilliant, beautiful, and resilient women— women who have weathered grief and loss in a deeply patriarchal world. And through it all, they always carry themselves with a quiet grace—soft but never silent. The Mother is Standing draws inspiration from the Stabat Mater Christian hymn to Mary, which describes her suffering as Jesus’s mother during his crucifixion. While based off the hymn’s traditional chant melody, this piece examines the love between mother and child in a wider context. This piece is dedicated to my mom, who constantly teaches me through her example what womanhood and motherhood truly means.”

Shekhar’s “The Mother is Standing” shared the bill with Chick Corea’s Trombone Concerto and Dvořák’s beloved New World symphony, led by guest conductor Giancarlo Guerrero.

Released through Ritmo Fatale, a French record label, the track showcases a driving beat reminiscent of early-80s European dance music that has become part of Tallac’s signature nostalgic sound.

Together, John & Ross invite some of LA’s most exciting voices in popular music to perform acoustic covers and original songs on the stage of their virtual variety show.

From John & Ross: “John Schroeder and Ross Garren are a production duo with a decade of experience writing, recording and playing music together. Their extensive recording credits collectively include work with Bon Iver, Keisha, Bruce Hornsby, Ben Folds, Noah Cyrus, Pomplamoose, Keb Mo', Rita Coolidge and many others. Active media composers as well, their original music has appeared in dozens of films and television shows, including Love, Crashing and Bold Type. Moon Manor, the critically acclaimed film by writer/directors Machete Bang Bang & Erin Granat is now playing on SHOWTIME. The film's soundtrack features two songs by Maggie Dave: "I'm Not Ready" and "Worry (Joe Berry Remix.)"

It's been inspiring to see how many have been touched by Jimmy's story about embracing death in all its complexity and wonder. We'll always honor the faith that Machete & Erin placed in our music to give it such a special home within their film.

"I really like this simple, direct and beautiful way of expression,” says director Haonan Wang. “At that time, the aesthetics were very rich, with colors and exaggerated images everywhere; Not stingy, very dynamic, and very different from the current pursuit of flatness and grayscale. I think it’s fun to present this story in this format."

"Million Dollar Neighborhood" by Joy Guerrilla

The million dollar neighborhood isn't so much a place as it is a temperament. With the right lens, you can see it anywhere and everywhere. Here is our attempt to sonically describe that state of mind.

Maggie Dave collaborators Magdalena Daniec (keyboards) and Adam Grab (bass guitar) have excavated this funky gem of a song with their band, Joy Guerrilla. Oozing with vintage charm complimented with stacks of horns and flutey synths, “Million Dollar Neighborhood” is joy to listen to and a perfect walking companion song for any neighborhood!

"The million dollar neighborhood isn't so much a place as it is a temperament. With the right lens, you can see it anywhere and everywhere. Recorded (almost) entirely analog in our apartment, we hope this will elicit the paradoxical feelings of morose-filled hyper-stimulation, chipper-agitation, and promise-with-a-backdrop-of-chaos that are part and parcel of the place.
